Some Statistics

May 26, 2017

We have 25 years of data on four species as shown below. The plot is the first bloom date, measured in days from the start of the year for each species versus the year. Thus a smaller date number means an earlier bloom. Now two of them show a decline and one does not. The fourth is unstated. Overall a declining start date would be an inclination of warming. Based on this 25 year record there is really not a great deal we can say. I leave it to the readers to comment.

Season Begins

May 24, 2017

We have now begun the season and some of the latest species are out. Note the following three species.

H middendorfii
H dumortieri
H dumortieri

First Hybrid

The first hybrid, the Stout Elfin, has bloomed. It is cool and wet but they plants generally look quite healthy.

More Data

January 3, 2017  07:00

We have also provided a chart of time to mature and the resulting number of seeds per pod. Note the significant dispersion of seed count and the clumping at about 50 days maturity.

Beginning of a New Year

January 1, 2017  07:00

The new season has begun. We have set the seeds to grow and will keep them in growing beds for about ten weeks. I have included some stats from last season. We have become more focused on crosses.
